CCA's 17th Annual Chairman's Charity Golf Classic Supports Local Organizations

For years, Nashville-based Corrections Corporation of America (CCA) has been assisting some of the area’s most vulnerable citizens through its Annual Chairman’s Charity Golf Classic, which will be held on Oct. 2, 2008, at Hermitage Golf Course in Old Hickory, Tenn.

Estimated net proceeds of $100,000 from this year’s golf tournament will benefit eight local organizations, many of which serve former offenders and families who have been impacted by incarceration. Additionally, a portion of proceeds will also benefit the company’s CCAssist Fund, which makes rapid and responsive relief available to CCA’s more than 17,000 employees, when faced with unexpected emergencies, health crises and natural disasters – most notably Hurricanes Ike and Gustav in recent times.

“Society sometimes forgets that each offender is someone’s brother, father, mother, son or daughter – that they are individuals who have families they’ve left behind as they repay their debt to society,” said John Ferguson, CCA chief executive officer and chairman.

“CCA professionals guide offenders through rehabilitation and recovery so they may return to their communities and families ready to begin anew,” added Damon Hininger, CCA president and chief operations officer. “Here, in Middle Tennessee, we are also committed to supporting organizations that help bridge the gap between offenders on the ‘inside’ and their families on the ‘outside.’

Proceeds from the CCA Chairman’s Golf Classic benefit eight Middle Tennessee nonprofit organizations, including: Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Middle Tennessee, CASA, Inc., Magdalene, Men of Valor, Miriam’s Promise, Project Return, The Next Door and Youth Encouragement Services.

“CCA’s support of our agency is critical,” said Deborah Robinson, executive director of Miriam House. “We have been able to expand our offerings to incarcerated pregnant women by 50 percent through our prenatal education and counseling program.”

“CCA has been an extremely valuable corporate partner for CASA, Inc., as we serve abused and neglected children in our community,” said Jane Andrews, executive director, CASA. “CCA demonstrates that corporations and their employees can get involved and be part of the solution to make our communities better for everyone.”

An estimated 240 golfers from across the country are expected to participate in the Golf Classic this year.

“This is one of the most widely attended annual golf fundraisers in the area, but the highlight of it all is when we present these deserving charities with the fruits of our fun,” said Bart VerHulst, tournament director and CCA managing director, Federal and Local Customer Relations.
